Organic Bamboo
0 pesticides. 0 fertilizers. 0 irrigation.
Our manufacturing process starts with organic bamboo (not the kind eaten by pandas, don’t worry!) grown without pesticides, fertilizers, or irrigation. The plants grow quickly (thereby capturing more C02 than any other textile fiber crop), reach maturity in less than 3 years, and have complex root systems that prevent topsoil erosion.
The plants propagate themselves by sending shoots into the soil around them, and as a result of the randomized distribution of shoots, no one section of the farm is ever clear-cut. The farmer keeps track of which shoots grow in which year by labeling the plants with their sprouting year, and harvesting is performed based on thickness and height of the plant.
Once the bamboo is cut down, it is hauled to a pulping plant where it gets divided up: some goes to make bamboo hardwood products (cutting boards, flooring, chopsticks, etc) and some is sent off to be turned into bamboo pulp.
