Philosophy

Why we are who we are.

These seven philosophies are what keep us going as individuals and as a company. We’re sharing them with you because we believe they offer a unique insight into our company culture and speak to the overall mission of Five Bamboo. Thank you for reading.

1. Try.

Our planet is at an environmental crossroads. The problems of climate change, environmental degradation, and deterioration of ecosystems threaten the future of life on our planet. The problems are big. They are complex. And they are daunting.

Try is the philosophy that we will never let the complexity of a problem scare us into idleness. The things we do—regardless of how small—all have an impact. Whether it’s an act as trivial as switching the lights off when we leave the room or an act as big as starting a company, try is the philosophy that every action has a consequence.

When the problems are daunting, we have to try, we will try.

2. Action Is Our Most Powerful Voice.

A desire to change the status quo is what inspired us to start this company. We believe that if we can get everyone to wear clothing that comes from a sustainable and renewable resource, we can re-define our industry. Our products are not just about profit, they are about changing the world. One t-shirt at a time.

Nomo Clean Bamboo™ fiber is the most sustainable fiber for large-scale textile use, and we are putting our money where our mouth is.

3. Be Mindful of Our Human Impact.

From our brand image to our bottom line, every business decision we make as a company carries expected and unexpected consequences. The most important impact, however, goes beyond the walls of our conference rooms. This is our human impact.

The decisions we make as a company impact the lives of people across the globe. That is why we take great care in every decision we make as a company, from deciding where our yarn is spun to where we sell the final product. We are in control of every stage of our manufacturing process so that we can be sure we know how our products are made, and that we pay a fair and livable wage to the people that invest their time and skill in our company.

Ultimately, the biggest human impact comes from the consumer. By changing the product, we can change the mindset and change the world.

4. Be Honest.

Be honest. All the time. Period.

5.Improvement is a Process, Not a Goal.

We are always looking for ways to become better at what we do and we are continually looking for better methods to affect positive change. Improvement—both as individuals and as a company—is not simply a goal but rather an ongoing process of self-growth.

Today’s best practice may become tomorrow’s worst, and we acknowledge that we will evolve as the world around us changes. We are continually looking for new technologies and new practices to mitigate the environmental impacts of the global apparel industry. From the technology we use to make our Nomo Clean Bamboo™ fiber to the
materials we use to package our final products, we are constantly improving the reach and effectiveness of our company.

6. Be Fearless In Our Ideals.

We believe that big ideals inspire big action. We will continually strive to do more than most people in our industry think is possible.

Our goal is not just to provide outstanding clothing to the market, but more importantly to challenge the assumptions that underlie the global clothing industry. We believe that clothes don’t have to harm the planet, and that by changing what our clothes are made from, we can fundamentally alter the harmful relationship the apparel industry has with the environment.

Pursuing big ideals is what gives purpose to our action. In order to do big things, you have to fearlessly believe that big things are possible. That is why we founded this company.

7. Be Grateful.

At the end of the day, you can only be grateful for what you have. No matter how far away from the goal, you must be thankful for what you have been able to accomplish, and be grateful to those who have enabled you to affect change.
